Demand for “human touch” services persists even when automation technology exists because “people like people”—live music, actors, waiters, travel agents, and premium sales jobs retain human workers despite technical feasibility of automation. “Human touch” is a normal good—demand increases with income, explaining premium restaurants and concierge services. AI-driven automation could paradoxically create boom in human artisan jobs and human-centric professions. Potential for wage increases in these sectors. Inspired by Jack Clark’s note on AI and the Economics of the Human Touch study.
